There is more to the RCN than you might think. We’re a trade union with a membership of over half a million nurses, midwives, nursing support workers and students. We support their practice, represent them, lobby on their behalf, and develop them. We exist to make a positive difference – to the working lives of our members and ultimately to standards in patient care. Our employees are drawn from many walks of life – we are nurses, trade unionists, administrators, IT professionals, policy and finance experts, lawyers… together we are so much more. We couldn’t do what we do without our people.
We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.
As the RCN Regional Director you'll use your positive attitude and your experiences as a nurse and a leader to improve the working lives of nurses and the provision of health and social care in your region.
It's a job full of possibilities. You’ll be adept at influencing decision makers across the health, social care and political spectrum, speak for our members and getting results. You will be a leading voice for the nursing profession locally.
Every day will be filled with opportunities as you find new ways to lead and support the development of staff, activists and members. Promoting nursing’s contribution to health and social care delivery and representing our members will be your primary role, but you’ll also see the possibilities that new members can bring. You’ll get involved in leading campaigns, help shape the organisations thinking on contemporary nursing issues and contribute to national projects.
To join us you’ll need to be an experienced inclusive manager with the ability to effectively lead, develop and motivate a team. You’ll need a current and active registration with the NMC and a passion for nursing.
The ability to foster strong professional relationships and encourage close collaboration between teams is at the heart of this leadership role. You’ll have experience of driving change and delivering excellent service.
To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible.
