3rd Line Engineer
Negotiable location between RCN Cardiff Gate Office and RCN UK HQ, 35 hours per week, Permanent Contract

At the Royal College of Nursing, we are an optimistic organisation, and we have good reason to be. We all share the same voice when it comes to changing the shape of the health policies of the future. As the largest trade union of nursing staff and students in the UK – with around 465,000 members – all we can see are the infinite possibilities for a brighter future. Join us and you will too.

We are accredited with Investors in People Gold Standard.

As one of our 3rd Line Engineers, you will use your positive attitude and your extensive knowledge of IT solutions to deliver and support highly available, cost-effective IT systems and services.

It is a job full of possibilities, as you could get involved in anything from designing new IT solutions for the RCN, to troubleshooting and resolving issues with key IT systems. We will look to you to deliver technical solutions to complex environments across all our business areas. It's a great way to build your knowledge of our work and develop your potential.

You will use your enthusiasm, your positivity, and your customer service skills to deliver an exceptional service to our staff, your customers and ultimately our members.

Every day is different. You will work alongside colleagues across our whole organisation with Development, Security, and IT Operations teams, to deliver projects from planning to implementation. You will use your skills to enhance our current solutions, providing expert advice and guidance on key infrastructure and new technologies.

You will work with industry-leading technologies from our partners; Microsoft, VMware, Veeam, amongst others. It is a great way to build on your skills and experience, and progress your career in a great organisation, where we offer excellent training and development opportunities.

We support in-house training and formal, recognised certification pathways.

We expect you to look after your customers and you will be rewarded for it. As well as a whole range of learning and development opportunities, we can also offer you an impressive range of benefits. We have a highly competitive pay structure and annual leave of up to 32 days.

Balancing work and life commitments is important to us as an organisation. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs. All employees can ask for flexible working and when personal circumstances change, we will work with you to find a smarter working solution that suits everyone. In fact, many of our employees enjoy home working, flexible working, or compressed hours, enabling them to deliver results with minimum impact to their professional and personal commitments. We also offer generous Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave packages.

As well as exceptional customer service, you will need an in-depth knowledge of designing, implementing, and supporting our key infrastructure technologies that are utilised by the organisation, incorporating 16 UK sites and many remote workers.

You will need a broad depth of knowledge and technical skills across key areas such as VMware, Microsoft Azure and O365 (Server 2016/2019, AD, SCCM/Endpoint Manager, Teams/S4B), and Veeam. You should be constantly looking to upskill yourself using new technologies to support our business.

Certification in the above areas is desirable, but not essential. You will demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for technology and be a strong ambassador for your role.

Whatever your background, you will be confident, efficient, accurate and show a real customer focus in all you do.

The ability to foster strong professional relationships and encourage close collaboration between departments and teams is at the heart of this role.

To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better, and brighter and with an attitude like that, anything is possible.

Please note, that due to Covid-19, while we are trying our best to accommodate our Assessment Centres and Interviews on the dates outlined in our adverts, we may need to be flexible about how and when we run our Recruitment processes for the time being. We are currently running Assessments and Interviews remotely should we need to, in accordance with Government advice, so if you envisage any issues with accessing a computer, webcam or a sufficient internet connection for a video call, then please do highlight this in your Supporting Statement. We will of course do all we can to ensure you have the best experience in applying to work with us during this challenging period.

Please note, should we receive a high volume of applications for this role, your application may not be shortlisted if you do not submit a Supporting Statement. A Supporting Statement is an important part of our application process, so we would encourage you to submit one as part of your application.

Should we receive a suitable number of applications for this post after a week of posting this advert, this vacancy may close early, before the closure date stated below.
