Public Affairs Adviser
RCN UK HQ (London), 35 hours, Fixed Term Contract or Secondment until December 2021

Are you an exceptional public affairs professional with proven ability to deliver strategies that shape opinion-formers’ thinking? Are you ready to join a dedicated team campaigning on issues of concern to nurses, health care support workers and patients, shaping health and social care policies and promoting excellence in nursing practice?

As our Public Affairs Adviser, you’ll use your knowledge, experience and creative thinking to influence parliamentarians, policy makers, external stakeholders and the public on behalf of our members and to raise the profile of the Royal College of Nursing.

This is a great opportunity to work to directly influence and shape health and social care policy in the UK and to raise the profile of nursing.

Proactive and collaborative in your approach, you will have regular contact with Parliamentarians, Government officials and stakeholders across the sector, working to build positive relationships and helping to focus attention on the issues that matter to nursing professionals.

Using your extensive communication and campaigning skills, you will develop and deliver multi-media campaigns to raise awareness of these issues and engage our members, stakeholders, and the public, ensuring the voice of nursing is included in coverage of health and social care issues.

What we offer you

We expect you to look after our members. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. As well as a whole range of learning and development opportunities we can also offer you an impressive range of benefits. We have a highly competitive pay structure, as well as flexible working, and annual leave of up to 32 days.

Balancing work and life commitments is important to us as an organisation. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs. All employees can ask for flexible working and when personal circumstances change we will work with you to find a smarter working solution that suits everyone. We also offer generous Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave packages.

We’re looking for a public affairs specialist who understands how to influence decision-makers and the public. You will have a high level of political awareness, experience of Westminster Parliamentary and Governmental processes and procedures and be able to provide tactical insight into how parliament operates and the opportunities and risks this presents.

To join us, you will be a great team player and highly skilled communicator. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to build productive working relationships and write persuasively for a variety of audiences.

Knowledge of the health and social care sector and the challenges that affect our members is desirable, as is previous experience working to shape legislation.

To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible.
