Are you an exceptional public affairs professional with proven ability to deliver strategies that shape opinion-formers’ thinking? Are you ready to join a dedicated team campaigning on issues of concern to nurses, health care support workers and patients, shaping health and social care policies and promoting excellence in nursing practice?

We’re looking for a public affairs expert, where you’ll use your knowledge, experience and creative thinking to influence parliamentarians, policy makers and the public on behalf of our members and raise the profile of the Royal College of Nursing.

This is a great opportunity to work within a small team to directly influence and shape health and social care in Scotland. Proactive and collaborative in your approach, you will have regular contact with MSPs and parliamentary researchers, working to build positive relationships and helping to focus attention on the issues that matter to nursing teams.

Using your extensive communication skills you will develop and deliver multi-media campaigns to raise awareness of these issues and engage our members, stakeholders, the media and the public, ensuring the voice of nursing is included in coverage of health and social care issues. You will be part of the team providing out of hours media cover and some evening work/travel may also be required.

We’re looking for a public affairs and media specialist who understands how to influence decision-makers and the public. For this role you will have a high level of political awareness, experience of Scottish Parliament processes and procedures and be able to provide tactical insight into how parliament operates and the opportunities and risks this presents.

Working well under pressure, you will understand Scotland’s news agenda and be able to demonstrate success in working with traditional and social media. Educated to degree level (or equivalent), a great team player and highly skilled communicator, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to build productive working relationships and write persuasively for a variety of audiences.

Knowledge of the health and social care sector in Scotland and the challenges that affect our members would be beneficial.
