Our awards

OurAwards We are extremely proud to have received substantial external recognition for our work as an employer. As a trade union we believe it is vital that we practice what we preach and lead by example in the ways we support our employees. For us, the following awards represent our ongoing commitment and determination to be the very best employer for our outstanding staff.

Sunday Times Top 100

In what turned out to be an historic year for the RCN, we made our debut in the celebrated Top 100 employers list in 2011 at number 51. We have been included on this prestigious list ever since and are honoured to currently be recognised by the Sunday Times as the 15th Best Not-for-Profit Company to Work For in the UK.

Best Companies

We are delighted to be accredited with 2 stars from Best Companies , reflecting our incredibly high level of workplace engagement. Year on year we have applied for reassessment and have consistently retained this accreditation.

Investors in People

Initially accredited by Investors in People (IiP) in 2009, the RCN was awarded the prestigious IiP gold standard in July 2012, and was again awarded the highest form of accreditation available in July 2015. This marks us as an employer that follows good practice in developing our people and, we believe, shows our commitment to enabling our staff to be the very best they can be. We are delighted to have since been shortlisted by IiP for one of their highly prestigious national awards in the Excellence in Work Life Balance category.

Health and wellbeing

In 2013 we were awarded the Royal Society for Public Health’s Health & Wellbeing Award  for our UK-wide workplace health and wellbeing programme. We were praised for the development of our internal health and wellbeing advocate role, taken up by staff members who encourage their colleagues to lead healthier lifestyles through means such as our Bicycle User Group, local fitness groups and participation in the Global Corporate Challenge® . We have also received special recognition for our health and wellbeing programme in 2013 and 2015 from Investors in People and in 2011 from Best Companies .

Health and safety management

Since 2011 the RCN has been accredited to BS OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System , an internationally recognised standard. This demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continually improving our health and safety performance and our compliance with health and safety legislation.
